Who we help
Children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. We support Sheffield Children’s to deliver life-changing care, comfort and new ideas to transform children’s healthcare for thousands of patients and families from across the UK and beyond. These aren’t just patients – they are inspiring children, and their families, who have shown incredible courage and generosity in giving back to Sheffield Children’s. We are proud to share their stories.
After being diagnosed with a chronic lung condition, taking on a sport that restricts your breathing was the last thing anyone expected Rose to do. In 2024, she defied any expectations to complete an epic 40-mile swimming challenge.
Eight-year-old Poppy-Paisely from Sheffield has raised over £1,700 for the charity by challenging herself to 50 miles of activity in the month of February.
Liam and Sophie Kay faced every parent’s worst fear when their newborn son needed emergency surgery. Now, he’s thriving, and the family have even built a successful business inspired by his care.
Last September, Bethany Knowles, her sister Abbie, and their dad, Dave, took on the Great North Run – a half-marathon well outside their usual comfort zone.
In October 2019, when Caleb Masaba-Kituyi was just 3 years old, he was diagnosed with Leukaemia. After two rounds of cancer, Caleb is now thriving thanks to the life-saving support of Sheffield Children’s and his sister, Faith.
When three-year-old Charlotte began struggling with her arm, no one imagined her eyesight was at risk too. A routine check at Sheffield Children’s revealed a hidden condition that could have cost her vision. Thanks to early diagnosis and expert care, Charlotte’s sight was saved, and now, specialist research could help many more children with the same condition sooner.
