What is the snowflake appeal?

Our Snowflake Appeal is a special way for businesses, schools, community groups, and individuals light up Sheffield Children’s along with many other sites across the region and make a real difference.

Each year, supporters gift a sparkling snowflake, which is displayed on one of our sites. In return for pledging to raise funds, your name or business is proudly displayed alongside your snowflake for everyone to see!

Since we started in 2004, our snowflakes have raised over £2.9 million to help Sheffield Children’s continue delivering incredible care. Every snowflake sponsored helps fund life-saving equipment, vital research, and the little extras that make hospital life brighter for young patients and their families.

Last year, our wonderful supporters raised an incredible £434,000 through the Snowflake Appeal, helping to fund the new National Centre for Child Health Technology (NCCHT). This world-class research and technology centre, based at The Olympic Legacy Park, will be a game-changer for children’s healthcare – and it’s all thanks to your support!

Snowflakes displayed at Becton and Crystal Peaks will support the incredible work taking place at the Becton Centre, helping children and young people receiving specialist mental health care.

Snowflakes at Ryegate will support the Ryegate Children’s Centre, which provides care for children with complex neurodisabilities and developmental conditions.

When you gift a snowflake, it will be displayed proudly at one of our locations across South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, lighting up our communities in support of Sheffield Children’s.

Sheffield Children's Hospital
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is located on Western Bank, Sheffield, directly opposite Weston Park. Each year, our iconic twinkling snowflakes light up the sides of the hospital building along Western Bank, as well as the Outpatients Department on nearby Clarkson Street. This spectacular festive display brings joy and brightness to patients, families, staff, and all who pass by. Gifting a snowflake at Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a special way to show your support and make a real difference to young patients and their families. Funds raised from this site will go towards vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Becton Centre
The Becton Centre for Children and Young People is home to Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). It supports children and young people experiencing a range of challenges that significantly affect their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Located near Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre on Sevenairs Road (S20 1NZ), the building is beautifully lit by our twinkling snowflakes, which are clearly visible from the road. They bring festive cheer to both staff and patients, so those who gift a snowflake at Becton truly make a difference in more ways than one. Funds raised from this site will support our Art+ team to deliver a programme of arts-based activities for young people at the centre, providing a much-needed creative outlet for them and a break from the clinical focus of their stay.
Ryegate Children's Centre
Ryegate Children’s Centre, located on Tapton Crescent Road in Crosspool (S10 5DD), supports children with complex neurological conditions. The Outpatients Department hosts daily specialist neurology and neurodisability clinics, while the Ryegate Respite Unit offers 24/7 care for children with neurological conditions. Our twinkling snowflakes proudly light up the bridge beside the respite unit, bringing festive cheer to the children, families, and dedicated staff at the centre. By gifting a snowflake here, you help fund life-changing projects and services at Ryegate, making a real difference. Funds raised from this site will support our Art+ team to deliver a programme of arts-based activities for young people at the centre, providing a much-needed creative outlet for them and a break from the clinical focus of their stay.
Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park
Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is the future home of the National Centre for Child Health Technology. This world-class facility will be run by Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to develop world-leading research and build new technologies to solve the biggest challenges in children's healthcare. Our twinkling snowflakes will illuminate the G1 Building on Attercliffe Common, a prime location in the heart of Sheffield’s East End and a key gateway into the city centre. It’s a powerful place to show your support for Sheffield Children’s, symbolising both innovation and community spirit. Funds raised from this site will support the build of the National Centre for Child Health Technology.
The Moor
The Moor is a bustling outdoor shopping destination in the heart of Sheffield, with over 60 popular retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues. It’s a high-footfall area, making it a prime location for our snowflake appeal. The snowflakes are displayed in prominent positions along this busy shopping street, offering fantastic visibility to thousands of visitors each day during the festive season. It’s a brilliant opportunity to support Sheffield Children’s while lighting up one of the city’s most vibrant areas. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Sheffield City Hall
Located at Barker’s Pool (S1 2JA), Sheffield City Hall is a prominent venue right in the heart of the city centre, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and the bustling Christmas market. We’ve partnered with Sheffield City Trust since 2021 to display our snowflakes on this central landmark, making it a prime spot for individuals, businesses, and community groups to show their support for Sheffield Children’s. The snowflakes are traditionally switched on with the city’s Christmas lights, twinkling from November through December and delighting thousands of visitors. Funds raised from this site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Crystal Peaks
Crystal Peaks is located on Waterthorpe Greenway in Sheffield (S20 7PJ). It’s your one-stop destination for the latest fashion, unique gifts, entertainment, and more. During the festive season, our twinkling snowflakes are dotted around the building, adding to the magical Christmas shopping atmosphere and spreading joy to shoppers of all ages. It’s a fantastic location for businesses, schools, community groups, and individuals who want to show their support for Sheffield Children’s through our snowflake appeal, with all funds raised from snowflakes on this site going towards the nearby Becton Centre.
Chesterfield (Vicar Lane)
Located in the heart of Chesterfield, Vicar Lane Shopping Centre is home to a range of well-known high street retailers, cafés, and its own multi-storey car park, making it a popular destination for shoppers from across the region. We’re excited to bring our snowflake appeal to this location, lighting up several buildings across the centre with our iconic twinkling snowflakes. It’s a fantastic opportunity for local businesses, schools, and community groups to show their support for Sheffield Children’s while adding festive cheer to Chesterfield town centre. In Chesterfield, 3,342 patients were treated at Sheffield Children's Hospital in the final quarter of 2024. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Alhambra Centre (Barnsley)
Alhambra Shopping Centre is located in Barnsley Town Centre on Cheapside (S70 1SB) and is home to over 40 stores and places to eat. Our twinkling snowflakes can be found around the outside of the building, helping the centre sparkle throughout the festive period. It’s an ideal location for individuals, businesses, schools, and community groups in Barnsley who want to show their support for Sheffield Children’s through our snowflake appeal. In Barnsley, 2,576 patients received care at Sheffield Children's Hospital in the final quarter of 2024. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Woodseats Medical Centre
Woodseats Medical Centre and Library is located in the heart of Woodseats, in the south of Sheffield. This general practice serves over 12,500 patients and offers a full range of healthcare services. The practice plays a central role in this vibrant community, supporting local food banks whenever possible and helping to deliver CPR training to local residents. We’re thrilled that they’ve chosen to be part of this special campaign. We can’t wait to see the snowflakes light up this fantastic building, spreading a bit of festive sparkle this December to everyone who passes by. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
St John’s Owlerton
St John’s Owlerton, located in Hillsborough, Sheffield (S6 2DF), lights up Penistone Road with our twinkling snowflakes each year, in support of Sheffield Children’s during the holiday season. Their festive display brings yuletide cheer to the local community, creating a bright and joyful atmosphere. By gifting a snowflake, you not only brighten one of the busiest roads in Sheffield, but you are helping to improve the lives of young patients and are supporting vital services at Sheffield Children’s. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Brinsworth (The Centre)
The Centre, Brinsworth, is a vibrant community hub located at the heart of Brinsworth, Rotherham. Situated at Field View (S60 5DG), it proudly hosted our twinkling snowflakes for the first time in 2023, lighting up the area with festive cheer. It’s the perfect location for local schools, community groups, and individuals who want to support Sheffield Children’s during the festive season through our snowflake appeal. By gifting a snowflake, supporters not only help light up this fantastic venue but also make a meaningful contribution to the work of Sheffield Children’s. 4,173 patients from the Rotherham area were treated at Sheffield Children's Hospital in the final quarter of 2024. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
Woodhouse Community Hub & Library
Woodhouse Community Hub & Library, located on Stradbroke Road in the Woodhouse area of Sheffield (S13 7GD), is a welcoming space run by the community, for the community. It’s a fantastic location for local schools, community groups, and individuals who want to support Sheffield Children’s during the festive season by fundraising for a snowflake. The hub is a focal point for local activity, and the display of twinkling snowflakes adds a touch of seasonal magic that brings joy to all who visit. This site will go towards funding vital research at Sheffield Children's.
