Penistone Grammar School has supported our charity since 2010 and has made an incredible difference for the children and young people cared for at Sheffield Children’s.
Through running, walking, cycling, raffles, non-uniform days and plenty of other fundraising activities, students, staff and families have raised over ÂŁ65,000 for our charity – and they’re showing no signs of stopping.
Their fundraising has helped to support Sheffield Children’s and initiatives including the redevelopment of the Haematology and Oncology ward, the new helipad and much more.
Adam Gillett is Associate Vice Principal for Personal Development at Penistone Grammar School. He is a passionate supporter of our charity after his own time at Sheffield Children’s as a child, and the support the hospital has provided for his two children.
Adam is also part of our Educational Advisory Group and became a Trustee of our charity in 2025. He has spearheaded Penistone’s fundraising for us, as well as volunteering at our events and completing fundraisers of his own.Â
Adam said: “Sheffield Children’s is an incredible place and has touched and supported so many people in our school community. We are passionate about continuing to support the charity and helping to make a difference for children and young people in the future.”
Penistone Grammar School is always finding new and exciting ways to raise money.
In December 2020, 15 members of staff took on the Santa Dash, running, walking or cycling 14.1 miles – the distance between the school and Sheffield Children’s!
The school was also one of the first to gift a snowflake on the side of the hospital at Christmas, and their incredible fundraising in 2019 meant they were able to gift the biggest one!
Every Christmas, Penistone Grammar School also donates hampers full of goodies to say thank you to the amazing staff working at Sheffield Children’s over the festive period.
With their collective fundraising now reaching almost ÂŁ70,000, Penistone Grammar School is helping to make a real difference for children, young people and their families.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity funds the life-changing and the joy-sparking, including welcoming, child-friendly spaces. Penistone Grammar School’s fundraising has directly contributed to this. They raised over ÂŁ5,000 for a new consultation room in the hospital’s new wing, helping to extend it by four feet. This created enough space for both parents to be there to support their child during appointments.
Adam said: “Through the efforts of our staff, students and parents, we have been able to raise more than £65,000 to help improve the lives of children and families.
“Taking part in charity projects also gives our students the opportunity to learn important values such as compassion, empathy and social responsibility. We are incredibly proud of everything our school community has achieved.”
Lucy Cain, Volunteer Lead at Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are so grateful for everything Penistone Grammar School has done. I have had the pleasure of working closely with them throughout my time at the charity, and their dedication and support is truly inspiring.”
