Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity are saying a huge thank you to the brilliant charity Child’s Play, for helping to level up the gaming opportunities available for patients and families at Sheffield Children’s.
Child’s Play Charity delivers therapeutic games and technology directly to paediatric hospitals to improve patients’ lives through the power of play.
Their latest support will enable us to fund three brand new Xbox medical gaming carts for use across Sheffield Children’s.
The carts have been built, delivered and supported by the wonderful charity TheRockinR.
The gaming carts are mobile, allowing them to be used anywhere, from quiet rooms to children’s bedsides, helping to make gaming accessible and providing relief and fun for patients during hospital visits.
Both research and practice show that interactive play is shown to significantly benefit the mental and emotional health of young people, ultimately enhancing the patient experience and the quality of care a department can provide.
The systems have games appropriate for all ages, from our youngest patients to the teens that visit Sheffield Children’s. They also include all the latest streaming apps so patients can log into their accounts and watch their favourite series, or films.
Gaming not only provides opportunities for children to entertain themselves, but it also encourages social interaction, allowing children and young people to interact not only with other patients and staff, but also with their siblings, friends, and family, helping to create a sense of normalcy when they’re away from home.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity bring play, laughter and comfort to places where they’re needed the most, and we’re so grateful to Child’s support for helping to make this possible.
