Since first getting involved with the Bears of Sheffield trail in 2021, Jack has become one of the Charity’s most dedicated young supporters. Alongside his mum, Sarah, he has volunteered at events, supported fundraising activities and continually challenged himself to raise money for Sheffield Children’s.
What started as a chance to be part of a community project quickly became a long-term commitment.
Jack said “I began volunteering for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity back in 2021, when the Bears of Sheffield sculpture trail began. From there, I was hooked!”.
For Jack, supporting Sheffield Children’s is personal. When he was younger, he received care at the hospital, and he wanted to give something back to the place that helps so many children and families.
“Sheffield Children’s is a very special place that cares for thousands of children, and it’s important for me to give back where I can.”
Over the years, Jack has supported a huge range of events and activities. From the charity’s annual Egg Run and fundraising events to delivering leaflets, helping at charity stalls and supporting behind the scenes, he has become a familiar face across Team Theo.
One of his favourite memories remains the Bears of Sheffield Farewell Event at Meadowhall.
Jack said “It was an amazing weekend to be part of, and I even made a farewell video that included all the bears in it. It got lots of views on the Charity’s social media.”
Alongside volunteering, Jack has developed a passion for fundraising. Each year he has set himself increasingly ambitious challenges, determined to raise as much as possible for Sheffield Children’s.
In 2022, Jack completed a walking challenge covering 60 miles in 30 days, raising more than £735.
Not content to stop there, he continued to push himself further.
In the summer of 2024, during his school holidays, Jack took on an even bigger challenge, walking 90 miles in 30 days. With an initial fundraising target of £500, he went on to raise more than £900 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
Altogether, Jack has now raised over £5,400 to help Sheffield Children’s go above and beyond for patients and families.
His commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed. Alongside Sarah, Jack continues to volunteer throughout the year, supporting events, fundraising campaigns and community activities whenever he can. Whether helping supporters, volunteering at events or taking on personal challenges, he always brings enthusiasm, kindness and a genuine passion for helping others.
What makes Jack’s achievements even more impressive is his dedication alongside school and other commitments. He continues to find ways to support Sheffield Children’s while inspiring others to get involved.
Every pound Jack has raised and every hour he has volunteered helps Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity fund life-saving equipment, enhanced facilities, vital research and projects that make hospital life easier for children and families.
Jack is currently planning his next challenge, walking 150 miles in 30 days this summer.
Thanks to supporters like Jack, Sheffield Children’s can continue to change lives every day.
If you’re inspired by Jack’s story, why not take on your own fundraising challenge or volunteer with Team Theo? Together, we can help Sheffield Children’s go above and beyond for the children, young people and families who rely on it.
