Bright new lifts have been unveiled across Sheffield Children’s, thanks to a creative collaboration between the charity’s arts programme, Artfelt, and the Estates Team. Together, they transformed these everyday spaces to help patients feel more at ease as they move around the hospital.
The project was designed to provide adventure and distraction for children, young people, parents and carers, making the experience of navigating the hospital less daunting and more engaging.
As part of a major lift refurbishment programme across the Western Bank site, six lifts were upgraded as part of a wider £1 million project. But these lifts now do more than just move people from floor to floor.
With artwork on the walls, ceilings and doors, the lifts offer an immersive and imaginative experience. Artfelt worked with design agency Cafeteria and illustrator Tatiana Boyko to bring the vision to life.
The vibrant designs follow explorer Amy, inspired by Yorkshire’s own aviation pioneer Amy Johnson, and her robot sidekick, Chip, as they journey through different worlds. Their adventures create moments of wonder and distraction, helping young patients feel more comfortable on their way to appointments.
